No matter if you love him or hate him you have to respect his streak!

Favre’s streak deserves nothing but respect

By Dan Wetzel, Yahoo! Sports

Brett Favre will not start for the Minnesota Vikings on Monday when they play the New York Giants, an injured right shoulder sidelining him for the first time in 19 seasons.

So, for a moment, forget the text messages and voicemails. Forget the tearful retirements that lasted only a few months after endless speculation. Forget the drama that seems to hang on every move Brett Favre makes.

Even forget all the debate about why he’ll end his streak of 297 consecutive starts.

For a minute, let’s just focus on the 297.

In a sport defined by toughness, Brett Favre’s NFL-record ironman streak is one of the most amazing things we’ll ever see.

Favre took the field on Sept. 27, 1992, as the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers (he had subbed in for Don Majkowski the week before). He went 14-of-19 for 210 yards and two touchdowns in his first start. The Packers beat Pittsburgh 17-3.

And Favre never came out.

A vicious hit last week by Buffalo linebacker Arthur Moats will end this run, leaving Tarvaris Jackson to start, and Favre to watch. Not even an extra day of rest courtesy of a weekend snow storm that collapsed the roof of the Vikings home stadium – the Metrodome – was enough to get Favre back on the field. The game was delayed 30 hours and moved to Detroit, but it wasn’t enough to get the shoulder in shape. Monday night, Favre will hold a clipboard.

The entire streak is so big, so absurd, it’s almost impossible to appreciate. The average NFL career is less than four years. Favre is 41; only nine position players have ever played at an older age.

Favre holds the record for starts among any position player in NFL history. His 297 number doesn’t even include 24 playoff starts, two of those coming last year at the age of 40.

Minnesota’s great defensive end, Jim Marshall, is second with 270 consecutive starts. Among quarterbacks, it isn’t even close. Favre is like Secretariat at the Belmont. Peyton Manning (205) is his closest competitor and, conceivably, could catch him – in 2016. Through last weekend, only three other quarterbacks had started 100 or more games in a row and none of those streaks are active. However, Eli Manning, who opposes the Vikings on Monday night, joins the 100 club.

Favre has played through countless broken bones, torn muscles, concussions, battered ankles, banged-up knees and every other calamity that would fell most mortals. For years on end, the best (or easiest) job in football was Brett Favre’s backup. You collected an NFL check, you got your own uniform and you never got hit while you held the clipboard.

Favre has been so consistent that throughout this season as various injuries and ailments caused speculation to mount that Favre might sit, a lot of people thought it was just build up for a another triumphant return.

Even as Favre missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, few were convinced. Favre has been injured before only to miraculously recover on Sunday. So it’s partially understandable.

He’s been so tough that even a massive body-slam onto his shoulder didn’t earn him the benefit of the doubt.

This time there was more, though.

QBs with 100 or more consecutive starts
Player Span Starts
Brett Favre 9/27/1992–12/5/2010 297
Peyton Manning 9/6/1998–present 205
Ron Jaworski 9/18/1977–9/25/1984 116
Tom Brady 9/30/2001–9/7/2008 111
Joe Ferguson 9/18/1977–9/23/1984 107
Eli Manning 11/21/2004–present 100

Favre is a walking soap opera, and that played into it. The talk this week hasn’t simply been about whether his shoulder would heal but the “real” reason he finally succumbed.

Some speculated that he’d sit due to injury to save the embarrassment of an NFL suspension for inappropriate behavior in 2008 with a then-fellow Jets employer. Jenn Sterger’s representation has been pushing for action, and many will see this as a convenient injury. Others thought he’s just frustrated with the Vikings’ poor season, which won’t end with a postseason berth and has included the firing of coach Brad Childress. The decision to return this year has been a disaster, and this was the dignified way to end it.

And that’s kind of the problem with Favre.

Here’s a thought: Maybe he’s just hurt. Favre seemed so close to the nice, round number of 300 – if he could’ve finished the season he’d have started 301 times – that ducking out now didn’t make sense.

Besides, all season he’s been complaining that he doesn’t heal as fast, which makes sense considering his age. Would he have even played this season had three teammates not showed up at his Mississippi doorstep in August pleading with him to return?

It’s understandable that he wanted to keep playing, but this season hasn’t gone as planned. He hasn’t looked as strong – and hasn’t played as well – as he did last year when he led the Vikings to overtime of the NFC championship game against the New Orleans Saints. He retired then only to return. The Vikings kept losing though. The headlines have been ugly (some self-inflicted). His own family has told Sports Illustrated that this last year was a mistake.

The streak should cause a pause in the turmoil, however. If you love football, you should appreciate what Brett Favre has done. He got up every time. He came to play every week. He, without question, gave everything he had in every game.

Fans should appreciate that for 19 years, if you bought a ticket to see Brett Favre play football you got to see Brett Favre play football.

Manning may one day pass Favre, although it won’t be easy. He’s 34 and will have to play straight through to 40. What’s most amazing though is how Favre did it. Manning is smart; he rarely takes a big hit. He averages just 1.1 sack and 1.7 rushing attempt a game.

Favre has been sacked 560 times including the playoffs, an average 1.75 per start. For his career he’s averaged two rushes a game, and during the early part of his career he averaged more than three rushing attempts. There’s endless film of him barreling into linebackers and colliding with safeties.

He earned this record. There were no shortcuts. He never just played the first series and then hobbled off. He competed with reckless abandon, exactly the way someone protecting his streak wouldn’t do it.

The guy was a gamer. Week in, week out, nothing stopped him from playing. No matter how Favre’s image has changed over the last few years, no matter whether you love or loathe him, no matter the punch lines or annoying storylines, it’s one accomplishment that deserves respect.

MY Golden Gophers BEAT Iowa!

As a Golden Gopher alum it has been a rough season!!
Such a bad season that they fired our coach half way thru the season!
I was religious about going to Gopher games in college. So, wish the stadium would have been on campus like it is now!!
Anywho- here is a video of the end of the game and of MY Gophers reclaiming Floyd of Rosedale the fabulous little piggy that we get when we beat Iowa!!
I borrowed it from @gophers Twitter page!!
ENJOY! It actually made me tear up!

Football Coaches!

January 1996 I attended my very first AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Convention in Orlando, FL. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I was scared out of my mind.
I knew NO ONE at the convention. Had no idea what I was doing.
Just knew I needed to be there. I was a football coach. I needed to be there!

Well, that was 14 years ago. I have only missed a convention or 2 since then.
I have met so many amazing coaches over the years at these conventions.
I have also met a slime ball or 3.

Since my move back to Texas I have been going through old folders of notes and letters from the past conventions.
It is amazing to see how long I have known some of these coaches.
It is pretty cool to see how many I still talk to and how many I have lost touch with.
There is a core group I keep in touch with who have always been supportive of me coaching football.
Always encouraging.
Always willing to answer any random football question I can throw their way.
Making sure I don't have to sit alone at convention sessions or eat lunch by myself.
Some of them have even bought my football purses for their wives and daughters.
Sometimes they even get me tickets to a game. I don't ask very often but they have always come through for me.

I thank God that I have met more of the good guys than slime balls over the last 14 years.
This small handful I still communicate with on a regular basis is a good group of men. They are obviously NOT in the slime ball group.
They are always respectful and maybe even a little overly protective of me at the convention.
Like I am their little sister. It is good to know that someone has your back.

These men are talented coaches at some of the best schools and pro teams out there.
I feel blessed to call them friends.
I respect them as coaches.
I respect them as family men.
I would let my little brother play for them.
I would work for them.
I hope their wives know what wonderful men they are married to.
I hope their players know how much these coaches care about them.

Friendships are hard to maintain. Some last a lifetime. Some don't survive beyond the convention.
I know I have had boyfriends who hated when I went to the convention.
They couldn't stand that I was friends with these coaches or any man for that matter.
I have tried to explain until I am blue in the face the uniqueness of these friendships.
It is a coaching friendship it is not a man/woman thing it is just 2 people who love football.
We talk about football. I am no longer coaching so I want to hear everything that is going on with their team. I want to talk to them about a play I saw their team run on TV. I am a true football nerd!! They want to know what I am up to now that I am out of football. Some are the ultimate big brother and worried about my life. Am I going to church? Have I found a nice guy yet? How is your little brother playing this season? Even how is Coach doing? (Coach is my mini long-haired dachshund).
So, I cheer passionately for their teams because I know how much they are sacrificing in their lives to coach those teams.
They miss their wife's and kid's birthdays as well as their anniversaries because of recruiting, practices and games.
They have to move at the drop of a hat and their wives are left behind to pack up the house, find a new house in another city, and move.
All while juggling their kid's lives, schools as well as their lives and jobs.
Moving is stressful enough I can't imagine having to do it as often as some of my friends have had to do it. I respect their wives for being married to the crazy game of football.
I don't know if I could do it.

Since it is still Thanksgiving weekend I would like to say I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to coach football. I am thankful for that group of coaches who happen to be some of my best friends. I am thankful that they are some of the good guys in the game of football as well as the game of life. I am thankful that they have loving families who support them even through all the personal sacrifices.
I am thankful for football. It is a crazy and tough game but so much fun!
Happy Thanksgiving All Y'all!!

Had to share....touching football story

Last Friday, South New Jersey was host to a heated battle between two struggling teams. When the game was finally over, Sterling (N.J.) High coach Jarod Claybourn had to decide what to do with a game ball from his program's first win in two years. According to Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Phil Anastasia, he chose the least-likely recipient in a choice which testified to Claybourn's class: He gave the ball to the other coach.

"I don't even know if I can put it into words," Gateway coach Mike Karp, the ball's recipient, told Anastasia. "We're two struggling programs. Somebody had to lose, and we came up on the short end of the scoreboard.

"But for him to do that, it just shows that we gained some respect that night. That means so much to our kids."

[Video: Team lets opponent with Down syndrome score touchdown]

Both teams were shooting for respect while carrying the baggage of epic losing streaks. Sterling entered having lost 17 straight games, sitting at 0-5 in 2010. Gateway was also 0-5, and the 20-13 loss it absorbed on Friday pushed its own losing streak to 17 games.

While the game had to have a winner and loser,Claybourn said there was no reason why his team deserved to win any more than its opponent. Leading late in the fourth quarter, Sterling declined to punt on a fourth down near midfield to try and salt away a rare victory. Instead, Gateway's defense held strong and earned the ball back.

Gateway then put together one final, dramatic march down the field, fighting into the red zone before the game clock finally ran out.

"They just ran out of time," Claybourn told the Inquirer. "They deserved to win that game as much as we did, if not more.

"They had something like 17 players in uniform [actually, 19]. For them to play as hard as they did and come that close to winning, I just wanted to honor them in some way."

[Rewind: Florida coach suspended for taking in homeless player]

Claybourn indicated his decision to give up the game ball was a reflection of his own personal experience. While struggling through week after week of losses, some devastatingly close, it was sometimes hard for Claybourn to find positive signs to build on. Gaining the respect of an opponent is one of those signs, and handing over the winning game ball was the strongest indication Claybourn's team could give Gateway that it had earned Sterling's respect.

"It was very emotional for me," Claybourn said. "I looked at him, and I knew exactly where he was. I know exactly what it's like to be right there and have an opportunity to win a game and have it taken away from you."

Nearly a week later, the memory is still just as emotional for Karp as well.

"Classiest thing I've ever seen on a football field," Karp told the Inquirer.

Great Friends

Don't really know where to begin this blog. There is so much back story and history that I could write for days and probably not be able to do the story justice.
I know that I need to write about how I am feeling right now.
6 years ago a friend walked into my life. If there such a thing as soul mates in friends he is my soul mate.
He is my confidant.
He has seen my ugly and still loves me unconditionally.

He happened to be in a band when I met him.
We all became fast friends.
I guess it helped that I worked in radio and when you are in a band you want all the friends in radio you can find.
He gave me a cd that day and I was hooked instantly.
It was one of those cds that you can listen to all the way thru and love the whole thing.
Not a shitty song in the bunch. Amazing song writing.
There is one song in particular that reached out and grabbed my soul and has never let go.
Not sure what it was about the song that touched me but to this day it remains one of my all time favorite songs.
Over the last 6 years there have been lots of new songs added to their set lists and my favorite song no longer makes the set list cut.

This friend and this band have become a very big part of my life and will always be an important part of my history.

In March of this year the band decided to part ways.
I was excited to see that 2 of their final 3 shows were in a spot I am very familiar with.
The Minnesota State Fair. (my college hometown as well as home to my extended family)
I knew I had to attend these shows.
I needed a chance to say my own good-bye.

My friend who is also the lead singer in this band did something above and beyond amazing.
During the 2nd show my last show he played my all time favorite song for me.
Just him playing keys singing my song.
I was blown away and I cried like a baby.
Good bye tears for the band I have loved and fought hard for over the last 6 years.
Tears of pure joy that someone would do something so thoughtful just for me.
This is why he is my confidant and soul mate friend.
It is also why he will always one of my most favorite people in the entire world.

I love all 5 guys like they are my brothers and I know that I always will!!
I hope y'all have friends as great as I do!!

I have way too much stuff!
I can't help it! I LOVE STUFF! FUN STUFF! WEIRD STUFF! STUFF STUFF STUFF!!
Anywho- so about 15 years ago I had this idea for a book.
I spent a lot of time on this book.
I am not a writer so no worries I am not writing a book where you will have to suffer thru my hot rambling mess!!
It is kind of a cool idea for a book inspired by men and relationships!
ANYWHO.....
So, while cleaning I FOUND MY BOOK!!
I am so excited. I re-read it and it is even more fun than I remember.
As I was reading it even more ideas came to me so I added some post it notes.
Look out y'all this is going to be fun!!
HAPPY HUMP DAY!!

Long lost friend ... Found

So, as I am doing some spring cleaning. Yes I realize it is August and no longer spring.. I like to take my time.
Anywho I found a box of random stuff. In this box I found a stack of old business cards. Cards of people I used to work with. Cards of randoms I don't remember why I even have the card. And Some of my old business cards from various jobs over the years.
Came across a card of a guy I used to work with about 5 years ago.
He and I instantly clicked as friends when we first met.
We would flirt but nothing ever happened.
He was married.
I was enjoying my time with a fun young 22 year old.
So, we worked and flirted.
I left to go work for an insurance company (oh the stories I have on that experience- a later blog).
He and I lost contact.
Well, I found his card and looked him up on the trusty Facebook.
He popped up I sent a message and he replied almost immediately!
YAY! It was him!!
He called me! He STILL Had my cell number!!
I was giddy!
We talked for 6 hours!!
Yes, I said 6. 6 hours!
And the conversation never lagged.
He is now divorced.
FINALLY we are both single at the same time. hhhhhmmmmmmmmm
The possibilities of it are exciting me.
He called me this morning. Which gave me warm fuzzies.
This world is full of people. Some people come and go fast. Some leave a lasting impression.
He is one of those people.
I know no matter what happens between he and I we will always be friends.
I am happy to have a true and genuine friend back in my life.
I have to admit I hope that I actually get a chance to make out with him some time soon.
To see if there was anything to the sexual tension that seemed to fuel our flirting.
I will keep ya posted!
Happy Tuesday All Y'all!!
XOXOXO
Kate

2010 Football is HERE!

Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable.
Tom Landry

I am excited!
Watched Emmitt get inducted into the Hall of Fame last night!
Great speech! Daryl "Moose" Johnston got some major love!

Cowboys/Bengals play in a few hours!
Excited to see how my Boys look!
Wonder how the Bengals are going to do with Ocho Cinco & King Diva T.O.....
T.O. is only good for one season so I am sure they will do well before his full diva-ness kicks in.

Was going to play fantasy football this year and decided that I will stick with my little football pool with dad.
Anywho- lots to do before kick off!!
Happy Football Season!!
Enjoy!

Hall of Fame Game this weekend!!

After waiting months and months and months thru basketball, college basketball and the baseball we are finally back to football season!
The World Cup was a fun distraction for a few weeks then the USA lost and I lost interest in the drama kings also known as soccer players! Quit flopping around on the ground and play ball!!
Anywho-
The Cowboys will be taking on the Bengals in this years HOF game.
The Bengals just signed the biggest of Diva's T.O. .
Now Ocho Cinco and T.O. on one team holy shit thats a lot of drama.
I hope the WR shut the fuck up and play some football.

I am excited to see what Tony Romo is going to do. I believe he has the talent to be an elite QB.
Yes, I know I am a Cowboys fan but I will admit when players suck.
I think Tony will kick some ass this year.
We have a solid team. I am excited to see what happens!!
So, HAPPY FOOTBALL SEASON Y'ALL!
It is FINALLY HERE and I am a happy girl again!!
XOXOXO
Kate :)

College football Coaches I am NOT a fan of!!

With 44 days, 5 hours, 37 minutes until the NFL Regular Season kicks off I am feeling the need to blog!!

Why is Lane Kiffin such a fucking slime ball?
Why can't he follow the simplest of rules?
He is the reason for this blog. In his latest shining moment of shittyness he has pissed off the TN Titans for poaching an assistant coach.

There are a handful of football coaches out there I think a big sacks of shit.
They have had success. I have know assistant coaches who have worked for them so I feel like I may have more insight than the average football fan.
Funny thing my gut feelings about these slime ball coaches have been right 100% of the time.
So, I will continue to trust my gut and not believe the hype.
Current List of Coaches I can NOT stand nor would I let them near my son (if I had one):
-Nick Saban
-Lane Kiffin
-Steve Spurrier
-John Gutekunst (much more personal reasons than listed above)
-Mike Leach

These are just MY OPINIONS!
But felt like sharing anyway!
Enjoy!
and again only....
44 days, 5 hours, 30 minutes until football season!!

MEN!

Men!
I asked a man friend of mine if I was allowed to rip on men on my blog as long as I didn't mention names or major identifying information. He said yes as long as I give a good reason and a solution.
The reason....I don't understand them!
Why are their egos are so fragile?
They get pissy about the the smallest stuff.
I LOVE men do not get me wrong.
I have more male friends than female friends.
I LOVE men.
I prefer hanging out with the boys over a night out with the girls.
I REALLY DO LOVE MEN!!

So, you would think that men wouldn't piss me off so much but damn they really do piss me off.

I have a fabulous friend who has picked up a girlfriend in the last couple of months and has dropped off the face of the earth he won't return a phone call or a text message.
So, fucking irritating. We had all sorts of fun adventures planned with our group of friends and now all those plans are in the shitter.
So, annoying!
A girlfriend or boyfriend is supposed to be someone who can go to events with you and y'all hang out with each others friends and socialize. You don't just drop off the face of the earth and not see ANY of your friends!!
My solution.... Figure out how to have a relationship where you balance girlfriend time with friend time.

I have a met a nice guy recently (thru the internet) I like things about him. We have yet to meet face to face but maybe someday soon. I have talked to him on the phone. Nice phone voice (important to me).
BUT he gets pissy then ignores me on Blackberry Messenger.
I want to scream GROW UP! Seriously?!?
Today he ignored me because I didn't give him my Instant Messenger screen names.
YOU DIDN'T ASK FOR THEM!!
Im not on a computer all day so I RARELY log on to my Yahoo, GTalk & AIM.
Sorry I tried to tease you about it.
But thank you for ignoring my questions about when we are going to be Facebook friends.
There are things about him I really like and there are things about him that I think are deal breakers.
I don't know if we will ever meet in person. If he keeps up these little hissy fits I would say we probably won't meet.
My solution.... COMMUNICATION if you want me to contact you in another way besides BBM let me know. Its not hard. Something you want to know ASK!

I have lots of guys I could drag into this blog. But these 2 were the ones who chapped my hide today.

I am to a point in my life where my tolerance level for bullshit is very low.
I need men to quit acting like a bunch of little girls! Don't just hang with your new BFF and if you want something learn how to communicate!
Not that hard y'all.
And just a friendly reminder it is 65 days, 20 hours, 30 minutes and 35 seconds until Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 8:30:00 PM (New Orleans time) or the NFL Regular Season Starts!!
So, get ready y'all!!
XOXO
Kate!

Long time no blog...SMALL update

Holy Crap! Where has the time gone?
I had a plan to blog everyday and it seems that life has gotten away from me.
So, in the last month and a half since my last blog lets see what has happened?
hhhmmmmm well not too much has happened except my favorite band in the entire world decided to go in different directions (more on this later another blog).
I turned 39.
My mom bought a house in Wisconsin.
I decided to move back to Texas.
So, nothing too life altering!
So, I am currently in Texas packing up my mom's house that she has lived in for the last 28 years.
She closes on her Wisconsin house June 25th.
The moving van is scheduled to pick up her stuff on July 29th and be delivered by August 3rd.
Once Coach and I drive her car to Wisconsin, I will make sure that the moving van arrives, then we will let the extended family take over and help her unload and put everything away.
Then I will head to Nashville to start packing up the last 3 years of my life.
So, just a little busy this summer!! YAY!

I am having mixed emotions about leaving Nashville. (again another blog).

hey... just realized we are 88 days and 21 hours away from the kick off of the NFL regular season! WOO HOO

I am currently engrossed in The FIFA World Cup Soccer.
The USA played England today the final score was 1-1.
Please refer to my friend Michelle's blog for World Cup for Dummies...

I know NOTHING about soccer and was so damn nervous today for the game my heart was racing during our national anthem!!

So Happy World Cup!
Happy Mini-Camp to all the NFL players!
Happy SUMMER!
I will be back again soon y'all!
XOXOXOXO

FOOTBALL Y'ALL!

I can not tell you how excited I am for the 2010 NFL Schedule to come out!
Im a football geek I know.
I will be sure to post the schedule here too when it is finally released.
I am really ready for baseball season to be done with.
Yes I realize it JUST started but Im over it.
I do enjoy a game live and in person every now and then but I can not stand it on tv! Sorry! I am pretty much a football only girl.
Basketball... meh Don't really care.
I did watch the final college basketball game between Butler and Duke - I was rooting for Butler. I have hated Duke since college and the Christian Laettner days. I just get so sick of everyone hopping on the Duke bandwagon - they are a basketball power house yes I get it but I just don't give a shit about them.
Anywho- we are approximately 143 Days away from the start of FOOTBALL SEASON!
So, excited.
I will start blogging more. I need to. I think I am happier when I blog.
I am currently trying to get out of a funk.
I think I just need to get laid it has been about a month.
The car accident I had on Friday didn't help my funk any.
My chest is killing me where my seat belt stopped me. But as long as me and my dog are all right then the rest is fixable.
Happy April... It is almost May.... and 36 or so days until my birthday. I LOVE birthdays I just HATE getting older!
Have a GREAT Week!

Quick Update !

To blog or not to blog that is the question....
My life has gotten in the way of my fun and blogging lately.
I have several blogs planned but am waiting on details to fall into place before I blog about them.
Not that I have an ass load of readers but just don't like to jinx shit!
I could bitch about the stuff in my life that isn't going the way I want it to but who wants a negative blog? seriously!
No need to put any extra negative energy out there!!
I will say the past couple of weeks have been "lost in translation" of sorts.
I have had 3 different situations where text messages are sent and mis-read. So, hurt feelings have been running rampant.
Still working on cleaning up those messes.
So, words of advice Don't pick fights on text people - no good can come from it.

Baseball season started this week.... blah! I like going to games but do we need to have 85 months of baseball?
College basketball wrapped up last night Butler vs. Duke. I was cheering for Butler so of course Duke won- Blah!
Don't pay attention to the NBA I'm sure that is still going on winding down or something. I wish Chris Webber still played.
How many of you out there remember the Michigan Fab Five? Am I showing my age yet? ekkkkk!

On to the wonderful world of FOOTBALL... we are approximately 157 days away from the start of the NFL season.
They are going to implode Texas Stadium on Sunday. This makes me very sad.
I know we have a brand spanking new shiny stadium 5 minutes from my mom's house but- Texas Stadium is where The Cowboys legend was born and raised. SO MUCH HISTORY!
Tom Landry- the history of that man alone fills me with pride and joy. (and is a blog all its own)
I could go into a whole Cowboys thing here- but will save that for a later date and again a blog all its own.
Other news around the league...
McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins. I heard they also picked up Rex Grossman.
Poor Jason Campbell- I liked him and I hate everything Redskins.
The draft is about two and half weeks away.
Someday I will go to NYC and check out draft weekend. As well as the Heisman ceremony.
OH BIG NEWS my #1 love Brett Favre became a grandpa this week. I have never had a crush on a grandpa before...
(Oh wait yes I have but it only lasted like a week. He freaked out because he was one of my step-dad's best friends)

Im thinking about attending a Spring Football game or 2. Stay tuned to see which colleges I choose.
I am planning a trip to New Orleans to hang with some fantastic friends as well as enjoy some amazing music.
It is the last weekend that my fave band The Lost Trailers are on an opening slot for the Tim McGraw tour.
It is also my first time seeing Tim McGraw- big weekend. Im excited!!

Ok my real life and job beckons me.
I must keep moving like a shark!
Will promise to blog again soon and include some PICTURES!

XOXOXO
Kate!!

WOWZA pictures!

So, being the single man loving woman that I am.
I won't try to hide the fact that I think men are fantastic, fun, confusing as fuck, amazing, stupid and wonderful all at the same time.
They say one thing and do the complete opposite.
They smell good.
They are easily distracted. Sometimes a good thing. Sometimes a bad thing.
They look good.
They are especially sexy when they are playing guitar or football (in my eyes anyway).
They like to look at my boobs (usually).
But there are a handful of men in my life or that have come and gone in my life that have shared the most intimate of pictures with me.
No, not a pic of his smiling face because he is thinking about me but a pic of his dick.
I just went thru my phone and counted 7 pics of different men's "stuff"
Also, of these men who sent pics I have never seen 98% of them naked in real life.
98% !! We have NEVER EVER been naked with each other!!
So, why do men feel the need to be so open and free with me? (I'm seriously NOT complaining).
They always ask for pictures back. I have a stock black lace bra pic with perfect cleavage that I will send back.
I don't send out pics of my sweet stuff!
But men send them out like they are little pieces of electronic Halloween Candy!
I enjoy them don't get me wrong.
Does that make me a bad person?
I think they are fun. Sometimes they arrive at awkward moments (ANY family function or while I am on a date)
But for the most part they are an endless source of entertainment.
Also, a quick FYI for you men... if you send us a picture of your "friend" we have been known to forward those pics to our bestest girl friends or share them over a glass of wine on girls night!
So keep on sending them to me!
I LOVE THEM and You silly, crazy ass men who send them!

PS Sorry ladies I must refuse to share my oh so private collection of pictures on my blog!
It is my duty to protect all the guilty men in my life!

The Inner Fuckerness

Yes I said The Inner Fuckerness.
What is Inner Fuckerness you ask?
Well, over my vast experience with men in all capacities family, friends, boyfriends, lovers and even one night stands. All men have a few things in common.
Besides the obvious penis. They also all have an Inner Fuckerness.
This is something that they don't always show to everyone and they don't show it all the time.

My friend Jeffrey would like to add that women have an inner fuckerness as well.
We have discussed this at length the past few days. I am starting to agree with him.
I am sure I have been a fucker to someone at some point in time in my life.
Most of this blog was written before Jeffrey and I finished this conversation so, if you are a man reading this pretend it is about women and their inner fuckerness.

I do not think that I am a bitter woman.
I have been hurt very badly by men.
BUT I still have a glimmer of hope that I will meet some man who loves me for every wonderful thing as well as every annoying thing about me.

Some men choose to show this fuckerness right away they will flirt with you, make you feel like a million bucks for a few hours or days then you will never hear from them again. They just POOF disappear.

Some wait years and years and years to show this fuckerness.
I have NO clue what brings this fuckerness out.
There are some people whom I thought were above and beyond showing this heinous man gene but life has a cruel sense of humor and likes to kick you in the gut the minute you think you are happy and doing things right.

So, are people born with this inner fuckerness?
Does it grow over time?
Does it grow over the length of certain relationships?
Does it dissipate over time? Does it dissipate over the length of certain relationships?
Not sure. Still working on that.
I think it is different in each person. Judging from the conversations I have had with friends we all have similar experiences but the life phases of the fuckers involved are different.

So, I guess there is nothing we can do to prevent or ward off the inner fuckerness.
There are no tell tale signs. So, I guess if you know it is a possibility it might make it hurt less when it happens to you.
That is what I keep telling myself as I navigate my way thru this mine field of a love life.
Keep me posted on your progress and or fuckerness stories of your own!
Good Luck and Happy Dating!
-Kate

Back when I coached football!

I may have mentioned that I used to coach football.
I coached at 2 high schools in Minnesota.
There was an article written about me and 2 other women who were coaching at the time.
I found it on line. Makes my me miss coaching more than I can explain.
But hope you enjoy the read! (I'm at the end of the article)

They Call Me Coach

The women who dare to lead

men into battle

Sarah Smith

published: April 20, 1999

"There are two kinds of men among football

coaches," says Rachael Walder, who has worked as

an assistant for a number of them. "The ones who

believe in you and nurture you, and the ones who

think you're just an attractive ornament around the

office." Walder is one of a handful of women who've taken on the unenviable

challenge of breaking down barriers in that most stubborn bastion of

machismo— men's athletics. For the last five years, Walder has been

trying to get a toehold on the bottom rung of the football-coaching

career ladder that thousands of men have climbed before her. Her

struggle, and that of those like her, shows how little progress has been

made in this arena since an unlikely pioneer called Carol White made a

name for women who coach male teams.

The day that white wandered onto the football field at Monroe High

School in Albany, Georgia, there was no such thing as Title IX. It was

1970, 16 years after Brown v. Board of Education, and Albany was just

getting around to racial integration. White had been hired as a librarian

at Monroe, the first white person on the faculty of Albany's all-black

high school. On her first morning of work, without a clue as to where to

find the library, she stopped at the football field to ask for directions.

When she showed up the next morning to watch practice, one of the coaches handed her a

clipboard and asked her to help.

It was an improbable beginning for a woman who would go on to

become the first female assistant coach in Division I-A college football, and establish herself as

one of the premier kicking coaches in the sport.

Two years after White stepped into the breach to help a desperate athletic program, Title IX went into effect. It's tempting to imagine that Title IX— the federal law guaranteeing women equal benefits and treatment in federally funded athletic programs— helped pave the trail that White had blazed for female coaches, and that women athletic administrators and coaches have made the same strides as female athletes over the last 27 years. The truth is that while women athletes have slowly reaped the benefits of Title IX— more resources, increased public attention, and the rise of women's professional athletics— female coaches at the collegiate level have seen their earning potential dwindle and their career horizons narrow.

In 1972, women coached over 90 percent of female collegiate athletic teams.

By 1998, according to an annual survey of NCAA schools, only 47.4 percent of women's teams were coached by women.

As bad as those numbers are, the quantity of women among the coaching ranks of male athletic

teams, which remain the crown jewel of college sports, is near non-existent. According to the

NCAA survey, just 2 percent of men's teams were coached by females in 1998. These facts bring into focus another disparity between men and women coaches. A 1997 study by the Women's Sports Foundation found that female head coaches of Division I-A teams earn 63 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts.

Beyond the simple question of gender equity, some women's advocates worry that both male and female athletes are being robbed of important role models when they don't get a chance to

interact with female coaches. "If you preclude women and men from interacting in a cultural

institution like sport, guys miss an opportunity to respect women," says Donna Lopiano, executive director of the Women's Sports Foundation. The NCAA, Lopiano says, "has done very little" to address the issue. "They have to affirmatively act, change their hiring practices."

White acted affirmatively on her own behalf when she took hold of that clipboard. While working full-time as a librarian, White, who had gone through college on a music scholarship and had no knowledge of football, threw herself into her coaching responsibilities. She watched hours of game film, breaking down each element of the contests in writing without anyone to tell her whether she was right or wrong. By the end of her 15-year stint at Monroe, White was head coach of the JV team.

In what turned out to be a shrewd move, White developed an expertise in kicking and punting

while at Monroe. Although she sometimes doubted her own ability, she knocked the socks off a

group of coaches from Georgia Tech's football staff when she attended a clinic at the school in

1985. Former Georgia Tech head coach Bill Curry— who eventually hired White as a graduate

assistant— recalls his staffer's description of White: "That woman knows more about kicking than anyone I've ever seen."

Curry says he didn't think much about the social implications when he asked White to take

responsibility for his team's kickers and punters soon after bringing her on staff. "I didn't think it was noble or courageous," says Curry. "She was just the best person for the job." White would hold that position through 1989. She now makes a living conducting a highly touted kicking clinic. Unfortunately for people like Rachael Walder, not everybody with power in the world of football is as open-minded as Bill Curry. Walder grew up around football. She recorded statistics at her high school games, and her boyfriend played for the University of Virginia. Before long, Walder found herself acting as an informal scout for UVA. In 1994, without any coaching experience, she landed a job as a linebacker coach and assistant defensive coordinator at Montgomery Junior College in Rockville, Maryland. Although it was an exciting step, the job only paid a $1000 stipend, so Walder had to wait tables to earn her real money.

But in 1997, she made it to the big leagues— well, the bigger leagues. Walder got a job as an

advance scout and assistant coach with the CityHawks, New York's Arena Football team, which

played in Madison Square Garden until last year when they moved Hartford. It was the first and only time that Walder earned a full salary as a football coach. But it was short lasting. Her boss was fired after the first season and Walder left with him. Last season, she landed another assistant position— this time with a semi-pro team, the Washington Chiefs. But that job didn't come with a salary.

Despite her experience— and interviews at a number of topflight NCAA schools— Walder

currently works for a sports apparel company in Maryland. She would like more than anything to be back on the gridiron, but Walder says she's learned to be flexible about her aspirations. "I'd like to be a coach and get paid for it," she says. "In reality, I will probably end up working for the NFL in a noncoaching capacity."

Kate Pearson, who has been an assistant coach in Minnesota high school football for the last four years, thinks women offer something to the sport that their male peers can't. "I'm kind of their mother on the field, I'm more gentle, approachable," she says. "It's such a testosterone fest, they need to lighten up and not take it so seriously." But Pearson's no softie. When players start slouching on her watch, they run laps.

A Texas native and lifetime football junkie, Pearson was a junior at the University of Minnesota when she decided to try her luck at coaching football. The idea didn't seem so crazy after Pearson sat through one too many writing classes taught by a graduate student who barely spoke English. "If she can teach writing, then I can coach football," Pearson said to herself. After graduating with a degree in kinesiology, she cold-called area high schools looking for a football job. Like White, Pearson got her first break from a predominantly black inner-city school in Minneapolis. She spent two years there before taking her current job at St. Louis Park High in the Minneapolis suburbs. Pearson would like to work her way into a graduate assistant job at a four-year college, but so far she hasn't had much luck in the job market. She faces tough competition from men with years of playing experience under their belts. It's the old catch-22: You can't get your foot in the door without experience. But you can't get experience without getting your foot in the door.

Pearson refuses to call herself a feminist, and she says she's not campaigning for anything. "I'd

just like to be given a chance," she says. To that end, she has become a quick study in the art of

networking. For three years, Pearson has loyally attended the annual convention of the American Football Coaches Association— something of a frat party for the profession. Except, that is, for Pearson, who diligently works the lobby introducing herself to other coaches, joining conversations, and bellying up to the bar.

And while Pearson says some of her less respectable colleagues would still rather get a date with her than talk defensive strategies, she has managed to earn some respect. A notice on her bulletin board back home reads: "I admire your perseverance," a compliment paid to her by a Division I-A coach who had seen her at the convention. Such kind words, and her abiding love of football, get her through the hard days.

-I didn't realize how long ago this came out. wow!

Rachael and I are great friends. She did end up working for the Philadelphia Eagles for several years as the assistant coaches assistant and then Coach Reid's assistant.

Carol White stopped speaking to Rachael and I after this article. I don't think she liked the fact that we were friends with the males coaches at the convention. She thought we should just be a pack of women and stick together at the convention.

I coached football for 4 more years. I ended up working in the athletic department of St.Louis Park HS. As the Athletic Coordinator. I have since left football and am now in the music business. Thats a whole other story!

Thanks for reading.
